Cape Town Intl. Airport

Your comprehensive guide to Everything Cape Town

Flying to Cape Town is now easier than ever before. Many of the long haul carriers fly direct to Cape Town. Some flights still do first have a short stop-over in Johannesburg.

Cape Town International Airport has won World Travel Awards for 7 years in a row as Africa’s leading airport. It is a modern and developing airport that is growing in tune with Cape Town’s popularity as a top holiday destination. In 2007 Cape Town International Airport facilitated the transfer of 8.5 million passengers, and handled an astounding 45 654 arriving air traffic flights!

Construction at Cape Town International Airport has been ongoing for a few years now as it continues to grow to meet the demands of more visitors to beautiful Cape Town. Currently construction is underway on an even newer 2000 car parkade, after construction on the first parkade has just recently been completed. A “drop-and-go” ring road will compliment a newer terminal building in the future. Currently, a “drop-and-go” facility has been demarcated on a bypass road – and it is complimented with shuttle services and clearly marked walkways to the terminal buildings.

Even with all the existing and planned development, incoming passengers can easily find the onsite car hire offices, flag a metered taxi or meet an awaiting tour guide. Some Cape Town hotels also provide shuttle service from the airport to their hotels. Outgoing passengers who check in early can easily park or enjoy a light snack with family and friends before saying goodbye. It is suggested to check in early – 90 minutes before departure for local flights and 2 hours before international departures.

World class facilities that are available at Cape Town International include lounges, porters, information desks, conference facilities, viewing decks and a prayer room. Restaurants and bars can be found in all departure and arrivals halls. In duty free in the international departures terminal there is a news agent, jewellery store, sporting goods store and even a pharmacy. Here also you can buy last minute African curios, clothing items or a favourite fragrance.

When hiring a car in Cape Town, remember first that you drive on the left hand side of the road in South Africa. Secondly, try to hire a car with a Garmin or similar navigation system in it. Follow the green sign boards from the airport to the N1. Choosing the N1 Cape Town will take you to the city, beaches and the V&A Waterfront. Choosing the N1 Somerset West will take you in the direction of the Winelands.

Welcome to Cape Town.
